Teva Pharmaceuticals Breaks Ground and Commences Construction of New Distribution Center

Teva becomes official member of city of Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA (September 27, 2011) – Today, Teva Pharmaceuticals kicked off construction of its new state-of-the-art Distribution Center in Northeast Philadelphia. This exciting groundbreaking ceremony hosted numerous public officials, as well as others who were instrumental in helping Teva to finalize its plans.

The company is looking forward to expanding its presence in Pennsylvania, and this new site will join several other Teva sites scattered throughout Montgomery and Bucks counties.

Although this is Teva’s first formal presence in the city, the company is no stranger to the area. Teva, in conjunction with its partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles, has taken great strides in getting out into the community and demonstrating its social responsibility through corporate involvement.

Additionally, in 2009, Teva began a partnership with City Year Greater Philadelphia, an Ameri-Corps program that provides 17-24 year-olds of all backgrounds (Corps Members). The students are provided with the opportunity to go out to schools in the community and help sponsored its own City Year team, with specific focuses on Jay Cooke Elementary School during the 2009-2010 school year and both the Jay Cooke Elementary School and Thurgood Marshall Elementary School for the 2010-2011 school year.

The $300M project is scheduled to be completed in mid-2013, and within three years, will provide jobs for approximately 400 employees. This building will be 1.1 million square feet and consist of three adjoining buildings.

“We are eager to start construction on this site and to become residents of the city of Philadelphia. This new site will enable us to continue to offer high-quality pharmaceuticals to people across the U.S. and around the world,” said William Marth, CEO – Teva Americas.

“I am delighted to celebrate the groundbreaking of Teva Pharmaceuticals’ new facility in our city,” said Mayor Nutter. “Philadelphia is a smart city and a smart choice for businesses and Teva is an example of a company making a major investment in this city and creating 400 highly skilled jobs. I am looking forward to returning for a ribbon cutting when this $300 million project is completed.”

This new building will be located at One Red Lion Road, in Northeast Philadelphia. The site was formerly Transit America (previously known as Budd Company) and later converted into a golf course and designated as a brownfield.

Teva looks forward to the new opportunities that this site will offer and is honored to be so graciously welcomed into the city of Philadelphia.
